Safety Management – Protect your staff and your business

It is undeniable that managing health and safety in the workplace is not only a legal requirement; it is also the morally correct thing to do.  Structuring your health and safety management system around an accepted standard not only makes sense, it gives an organization the opportunity to prove to regulators, customers and employees alike that health and safety is recognized for its importance.

In Australia and New Zealand the preferred health and safety management system standard is AS/NZS 4801:2001 whereas the rest of the world favours the more globally recognized European standard OHSAS 18001:2007, we offer accredited certification to both of these standards.

Occupational Health and Safety management system certification, OHSAS 18001 and AS/NZS 4801, basically requires the organisation to monitor and manage its hazards that may result in harm to its employees. By controlling risks and creating improvements, not only will the organisation be protecting its employees but will also bring bottom line benefits to the performance of the company. There is also the added advantage that the standard requires the company to be aware of all the legislative requirements that are relevant to its operations and therefore the potential for legal non-compliances, and any subsequent court costs or fines, is likewise minimized.

At present ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is currently working on ISO 45001 to replace the current OHSAS 18001:2007.

We also offer assessment and certification to both the WorkSafe Warranty and SafeWork Warranty management system standards. These are more user friendly more cost effective options usually suited more to small to medium sized organizations.

All standards are based on a series of core principles:

Principle 1 – Health and Safety does not “Just Happen”

Principle 2 – Everyone has some level of responsibility for health and safety

Principle 3 – Hazards and the risks they pose must be effectively controlled to prevent harm

Principle 4 – Training & communication are central to safe operations

Principle 5 – All adverse events should be investigated and actions taken to prevent recurrence

Principle 6 – Health & Safety is a consultative and participative process involving both management and employees

The key benefits to health and safety management system certification:

  • Manage Risk
  • Reduce injuries & work related illness
  • Increased communication and “buy in”
  • Reduction in absence
  • Continuous improvement
  • Greater control over processes and internal systems
  • Reducing the hidden costs of workplace accidents and incident
  • Industry best practice
  • Happier staff and contractors and customers
  • Demonstrates your commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment

Health and Safety Management is all about having effective formalized management systems in place to ensure that you, your staff and all stakeholders are protected and supported.  They say health and safety management is “Common Sense”… unfortunately common sense is not so common these days.  Make a difference, make the move and start managing your workplace
