No one really likes to be audited; whether its financial, tax, product, process or management system audits they all serve the same purpose, to show an independent third party how you manage things within your business.
Most companies in the Certification Industry seem to have lost sight of why they are even here. They also seem to have forgotten that the people they audit are their customers.
What makes a good auditing and certification company is their auditor’s approach to the process. We offer open and honest audits against the requirements of the chosen standard(s) and no matter the outcome of the audit, pass or fail, the client should not feel stressed or under pressure. Even if the outcome of the audit is not favourable to the client (i.e. did not achieve certification), when our auditors leave the audit there are no hard feelings from the auditee; this is the true sign of good auditing – the approach….
Our auditors work closely with clients to not only focus on compliance issues but also to identify opportunities for improvement. Many organisations are still unaware of the true reasons for and benefits of implementing a formalised management system. International Certifications will help de-mystify the whole auditing and certification process and show you how to get value from the process.
Auditors are often seen as being in a “policing” role rather than in a support role. It is true that one of the components of the audit is to look for compliance with the selected management system standard but the other often ignored component is that of improvement. Certification bodies cannot consult but we can and do identify those areas where the company could improve their activities and operations if they considered alternative ways of controlling the processes. This is an underlying tenet of our audit operations; we would rather make a dozen suggestions and have just one of them result in an improvement rather than make none because of the focus on compliance.
We are not bothered if you ignore our suggestions as you know your own business better than anyone else. We also recommend our clients to “question” us if they feel that we have generated an invalid CAR. We are always happy to explain the validity of any CARs and have yet to withdraw one! Even though we may only see our clients a couple of times a year, we try to be a part of the team, albeit part-time, and as such our clients are always free to contact us with any concerns or uncertainties about certification, the standards, or their systems.

Don’t lose time when you recertify early
Don’t lose time when you recertify early With the release of ISO 17021-1 (the standard that CABs like us work to) the way we issue certificates at recertification time has changed to benefit the clients. When the recertification activities are successfully completed prior to the expiry of the existing certification, the EXPIRY DATE of the […]
Importance of Opening Meetings Many Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) do not conduct effective opening meetings. These are extremely important and a valuable part of the audit process for obvious reasons. We have witnessed many auditors in different parts of the world conducting management system audits and not paying much attention to this important element. They simply rush into the auditing […]
